Ambassador Huang Ping Delivered a Speech At the University of Zimbabwe

On 22 April, at the invitation of Vice-chancellor of University of Zimbabwe Professor Levi Nyagura, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr. Huang Ping delivered a speech entitled “New Development of China, New Opportunities for China-Africa and China-Zimbabwe Relations”. Present at the event were Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Zimbabwean Director of Confucius Institute Professor P. Mashiri, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce Dr. S. Gumbe, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute Ms. Lin Yuan and over 300 faculty members and students.

Ambassador Huang reviewed the achievements of China’s development and the challenges that remain by presenting the key elements of the Thirteenth Five-Year Plan and Government Work Report this year. He elaborated on the major outcomes of President Xi’s successful state visit to Zimbabwe and the FOCAC Summit in Johannesburg last year. He noted that outbound investment of Chinese businesses in the next five years will bring tremendous opportunities to Zimbabwe. He expressed his hope for the young students in the University of Zimbabwe to hold on to their dreams, cherish Zimbabwe’s valuable cultural traditions, expand global perspectives and make greater contributions to China-Zimbabwe relations. He also addressed questions of students on anti-corruption, Chinese business operation in Zimbabwe and the impact of indigenization policy on Chinese companies in Zimbabwe.

Professor Mashiri extended warm welcome to Ambassador Huang on behalf of Vice-chancellor Nyagura. He commended the speech as both informative and insightful, and expressed his hope for the two sides to strengthen cultural and educational cooperation so as to add new dimensions to China-Zimbabwe relations.

The Choir of Confucius Institute performed well-known Chinese songs such as In the Field of Hope, drawing a perfect conclusion to this event.
