Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe Hosts Reception Marking the 69th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China and the departure conference of Ambassador Huang Ping

On September 20, 2018, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr. Huang Ping and his wife hosted a reception at the embassy celebrating the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Chief guests were Zimbabwean Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Home Affairs Hon. Mathema, the President of the Senate Hon. Chinomona, ZANU PF National Chairperson, Defence Minister and War Veteran’s Affairs Hon. Muchunguri, Secretary of department of Foreign Affairs, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Mumbengegwi, Chinese Entrepreneur and Overseas Chinese representatives and the reporters from China-Zim Media. Approximately 800 people attended the reception.

Ambassador Huang in his speech reviewed the remarkable achievements which China has made since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, especially achievements within 40 years of reform and opening up. He stressed that under the leadership of Chinese Communist Party, the Chinese government and People blazed a development path which suits Chinese actual condition. The convening of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China established the historical position of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. It set forth the basic policy and the goal for upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era. China will further deepen the reform and opening up and work together with all countries to build a community with a shared future for mankind and achieve common development.

Ambassador introduced the remarkable results achieved by FOCAC Beijing Forum which had just ended, and stressed that both sides of China and Africa agreed to build a close community of shared future and that African countries should support and participate enthusiastically in building ‘One Belt and Road’ together. The next step, both sides of China and Africa will further work harder to implement eight major initiatives to promote ‘One Belt and Road, build the AU Agenda 2063, the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable development and deep alignment on development strategy among all African countries, strive for better and faster development of China and Africa, bring more benefits to the people in Africa.

Ambassador Mr. Huang Ping highlighted in his summary and reviewed the achievement made through China-Zim friendship and cooperation. He expressed, the bilateral cooperation is at the best of times in the history. The two nation’s relationship has been upgraded to comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership and mutual political trust has been further strengthened. Major projects including Kariba south Water Power Plant project, Victoria Waterfalls Airport Renovation and Hwange Thermal Power Plant Expansion Project have been completed successfully or launched which have provided the needed impetus to Zimbabwean economic development. Cultural and personnel exchange has reaped a bumper harvest and the two country’s friendship is growing everyday. Ambassador Mr. Huang made his farewell to all at the end of his speech, expressing his missing on his departure and grateful thanks to the Zimbabwean government and all sectors of society for the support to his and the embassy’s work which has motivated him to work harder day and night and with more confidence in the future of China-Zim relationship. He hoped the relevant parties of China and Zimbabwe continue to work together, further deepen collaboration in all fields, and elevate China-Zim comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership to a new level.

Before Ambassador’s speech, the embassy played a short video elaborated by the Embassy and the reporters in Zimbabwe from CCTV for the invited guests, which reviewed the development of China-Zim relations in the past 3 years and the fruitful results achieved from hard work of the Ambassador Mr. Huang Ping and his wife with detailed data and vivid examples which has been highly appreciated and well-received by the audience. Zimbabwean singer delivered a live song specially created for the Ambassador and his wife celebrating China-Zim relations Oh China,this is your partner Zimbabwe".

In the speech, Zimbabwean Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Home Affairs Hon. Mathema, on behalf of the Zimbabwean government and people, warmly congratulated on the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, highly valuated the achievements in China-Zim relation’s development, expressed gratitude towards China for the long-term support and generous assistance, emphasized the willingness to closely work with China to implement the results of FOCAC Beijing Forum, to rebuild the economy of Zimbabwe. The acting Minister Hon Mathema highly appreciated the remarkable contributions in promoting China-Zim relation’s development made by the Ambassador Mr. Huang Ping and Mrs. Zhang Aiping. He wished China prosperity, China-Zim friendship forever green and all the best to the Ambassador and his wife in their new duty.

The reception lasted for almost 3 hours with great enjoyment. The invited guests were all impressed by the achievement of China socialist modernization construction, highly appreciated the important results of China-Zim collaboration. Zimbabweans from all walks of life and the Overseas Chinese and Chinese organizations highly commented on the outstanding contributions in the China-Zim relations development made by Ambassador Mr. Huang Ping, expressed their regrets and asked to take a souvenir picture with the Ambassador Mr. Huang and His wife. Overseas Chinese photography Association in Zimbabwe held an live exhibition with pictures shot on Zimbabwean culture and way of life and the achievements of China-Zim cooperation which attracted many audience’s attention.

Ambassador Mr. Huang Ping accepted the interviews from the reporters of Zimbabwe National TV, Radio and Newspaper at the end of the reception which received exceptional media coverage from the reporters of Chinese Xinhua news agency, China Media Group and Zimbabwe National TV, The Herald etc.
