China Participates in Culture and Food Festival for Charity

On May 24th, the first cultural and food festival, literally a charity bazaar, organized by the First Lady of Zimbabwe, Auxillia Mnangagwa, was held in Harare Garden, where exquisite culture and cuisine, as well as performing arts were on show. Dozens of government agencies, local enterprises, primary and secondary schools and the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe took an active part in the activity. Counsellor Madam Wang Wei, wife of Chinese ambassador, accompanied by the staff of the embassy and the local Chinese restaurant, participated in the bazaar and set up a Chinese booth, selling goods with Chinese features, showing Chinese cuisine and Chinese art with distinctive features which were well-received by the locals.


The First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa attended the opening ceremony and she expounded in the opening speech that the first culture and food festival in Zimbabwe has created an excellent opportunity to promote Zimbabwean traditional culture and further encourage cultural exchanges between countries. It is hoped that such activities will have an effect nationwide to make Zimbabwean traditional culture, national music and healthy cuisine known to the world.


After her address, the First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa paid a tour to the Chinese booth. Counsellor Madam Wang Wei made a brief introduction of Chinese traditional musical instrument on display, namely Bianzhong and Chinese drum, traditional Chinese ethical costumes, and Chinese cuisine such as dumplings, rice cakes, and fried rice balls. She also showed some souvenirs with Chinese features and presented a set of chopsticks themed as “Belt and Road” cooperation to the first lady. With a strong interest in Chinese cuisine and music, the first lady appreciated the active participation by the Chinese side, and expressed her gratitude for China’s donation to the “Angel of Hope” Foundation, a charity organization set up by the First Lady.

At the end of the event, Counsellor Madam Wang Wei, staff of the Chinese Embassy and some local Chinese took a group photo with the First Lady.


Major Zimbabwean media made a through coverage of the event. The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe donated all the income in the charity bazaar to the “Angel of Hope” Foundation, which is set up by the First Lady and is aimed to help local vulnerable groups.
