2010/04/29

Dear Mr. Godfrey Magwenzi, Representative of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our Guest of Honor,

Honorable ministers, senior officials and Generals of Zimbabwe,

Ambassadors and representatives from the Diplomatic Corps,

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

Good Afternoon!

Today we gather here rejoicingly to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe. On this historical and special occasion, please allow me, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, extend warmest congratulations and best wishes to the Zimbabwean government and people and also my warm welcome to all the distinguished guests present here today!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

China and Zimbabwe enjoy profound traditional friendship. As early as the time of Zimbabwean liberation struggle, our two peoples have enjoyed mutual sympathy and support. On 18 April 1980, the same day when Zimbabwean people achieved glorious independence, leaders of our two countries, in the common aspiration of enhancing friendship between China and Zimbabwe, signed the historic Communiqué of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Governments of the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Zimbabwe, thus opening up a new era in the history of our friendly cooperative relationship.

Over the past 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, traditional friendship between China and Zimbabwe has remained as vigorous as ever and witnessed steady growth in various fields. The two countries enjoyed frequent high-level exchanges, deepening political mutual trust and close consultation and coordination in international and regional affairs. The comprehensive cooperation between China and Zimbabwe in all spheres such as economy, trade, education, culture, health and military has yielded fruitful results and brought tangible benefits to our two peoples. The fraternal relationship and all-weather friendship have been deeply rooted among the peoples of our two countries.

During the past 30 years, China-Zimbabwe relations have stood test of various kinds of challenges and achieved steady progress. Friends from Zimbabwe made invaluable contributions to the progress. I wish to express sincere gratitude to all those who worked tirelessly for that noble cause.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Today I would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm that China cherish its traditional friendship with Zimbabwe and will always continue to provide assistance to the development of Zimbabwe to the best of its capacity. China is ready to make joint efforts with Zimbabwean side to push our bilateral relations to a new height continuously.

Finally, may I propose a toast

to the prosperity of Zimbabwe and well-being of the Zimbabwean people,

to the friendship between China and Zimbabwe,

to the good health and happiness of all friends present here.

Cheers! Thank you! Tatenda!
